Tha Zaidi method of salaat has the potential to unite Sunni and 12er Shi-ite Muslims into a single, unified method, because it has a lot in common with both of their methods. It could even be said that it combines the best of both. This is the authentic way to do salaat, as transmitted to us through the Prophet S.A.W's great great grandson, Imam Zaid.
Here is the Opening du'aa: Innee wajahtu wajhee lillathee fatara ssamaawaati wal arda haneefan, wa maa ana minal mushrikeen, inna salaatee wa nusukee wa mahyaa a wa mamaatee lillaahi rabbal aalameen, laa shareekalah, wa bithaalika umirtu, wa ana awwalal muslimeen" Translation: "I have turned my face towards He who has formed the heavens and earth—as an upright worshipper. I am not amongst those who associate partners [with Allah] (Q. 6:79). Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partners. With this I am commanded. I am from amongst the Muslims" (Q. 6:162-163))).
iqama is necessary for all mandatory prayers for men. if you are praying the mandatory prayer to make up for a lost prayer then iqama is not necessary but is encouraged.
iqama is the same as athan with a small exception
to do iqama you must pronounce the following with a voice that someone who is standing next to you can hear you.
" allahu akbar allahu akbar, ashadu an la ilah ila allah, ashhadu an la ilah ila allah, ashhadu an mohamadan rasul allah, ashhadu an mohamadan rasul allah, haya ala alsalah, haya ala alsalah, haya ala alfalah, haya ala alfalah, haya ala khair alamal, haya ala khair alamal, gad gamat alsalah, gad gamat alsalah, allahu akbar, allahu akbar, la ilaha ila allah"

These small issues are an ijtihadi issues. doing such things does not show you are zaidi or not. that is why it is essential to follow a mujtahed of ahlulbayt of this time to assist on this issues. i did not care to bring up this subject as it is not prudent.
but I can tell you what the majority of ahlul bayt have agreed on: pointing the finger upwards is not part of the prayer. folding the hands in prayer ruins the prayer because it is too much movement. They have agreed that having more than 2 movements consecutively ruins the prayer.
I know its been a long time since we posted. We have been busy these days! Since I have a couple of minutes, I thought that I would respond.
Thanks to Br. Zabarah for answering these inquiries and taking up the mantle! (:
As he mentioned, the majority of the imams of Ahl al-Bayt (as) do not hold to the pointing of the finger. Truthfully, I don't know what hadith or narration from our imams supports this. As far as we know, this is completely absent from the early Zaydi fiqh texts. This issue has appeared in later texts.
About the folding of the arms, please see our article "The Lizard Hole" where we discussed this in detail. http://www.scribd.com/imamrassisociety

ReplyDeletesister zaida,
ReplyDeleteyour post is informative as always and I thank you for that.
just some minor corrections to note, that you might of forgotten. when praying other mandatory prayers you do not recite qunut.
Here is the Opening du'aa:

also men need to do iqama before the tawjuuh.
ReplyDeleteTo Zabarah:
ReplyDeletePlease could you tell us the exact wording of the iqamah before fajr prayer?

but that means Bismillahi alrahman Alrahim is not from Fati7a the first chabter of Islam or what?
ReplyDeleteSister zaida didnt mean it was not part of the fatiha. All she meant was to make sure that people would pronounce it with the rest of the surah.
